“Another Turn of the Kaleidoscope” (October, 2020)

I started this visual essay during the 14-day hotel quarantine Dinesh and I experienced after arriving in Singapore in July, 2020. Three months later, I’ve finally finished it!

Since January, 2013, I’ve written and shared an annual reflection on where life has taken me in the previous year. This year, I thought I’d shift my reflection schedule to the summer, but the busyness of an international, COVID-era move and then a new school year got in the way.

Inspired by the graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and various watercolor experiments, I decided to try something new with this reflection. It’s a bit messy, but overall I’m pleased with how it turned out! The essay is best read on a larger screen and/or with plenty of magnification.

I used Daniel Smith watercolors, Uni Pin Fine Line and Sharpie pens, and Arches cotton paper.
